I pretty much only listened to western music, during the time I was into skrillex, I happened to hear Ai no Gundan, it’s just like skrillex lol,
that day, I searched for their other songs on Youtube, Miss Sayashi Rihoriho’s twist and turns and her enchanting dances were great,
she stole my heart, and then the dance in Rock no tegi was awesome! Then I found the show Harosute and I watched from the first episode
and found there are other groups, took me about a week to remember all their names except for the kenkyuusei, so there were girls like
Kamei-chan and Yuukarin who has graduated…and with that, even-thought all the groups have their own character and traits, I’ve ended up
settling with S/mileage. Sorry does this make sense? m__m

During the Love Machine boom when I was in elementary school
I started listening to Morning Musume around when Summer Night Town and Daite HOLD ON ME! came out because JPop was the hottest thing at the time. Didn’t really get into it until AS FOR ONE DAY. Then 6ki happened and I was hooked. When I finally saw them in person at Anime Expo in 2009, that’s when I decided to go all out for Reina. Now that she has graduated, I follow LovendoЯ but still continue to support H!P because I’m so used to it? Even after deciding that I would quit after Reina’s grad. Right~ LOL FML OTZ
What’s your story?
As an overseas fans, i’ve look into H!P (Morning Musume to be exact) in 2002, in some MTV show, there were performance by Girl group Morning Musume singing “Koko ni Iruzee”. At that time i felt so excited because the music was alternative-ska theme, and the member looked so cheerful.
After that i searched any related info about “morning musume”, and found interesring things there. At that time i amazed by Gocchan (Maki Goto), although she was left the group to became a solo artist. Not long after that 6th-gen joined, then continued by next generations. But my love for group little bit decreased after “dark period” between 2009-2011 (Sorry for PE member). But i’m still there..
So this year will be my 12-years of becoming Morning Musume (H!P) fans or wota. Long Live H!P & MM…

I watch these collections of Japanese commercials on YouTube. One had a commercial for MM’s 1-2-3 single. I looked it up, downloaded it, and started digesting all I could. Got the singles collection which went until about 2008 as well as some newer individual singles, then kind of connected the dots.
Reina was easily my first idol crush, but Kudo was stunning in 1-2-3 solo shot. I like most of MM, but my power trio is Maa-chan, Riho and Kudo. I also have about a half-dozen S/mileage songs I like.

Then saw many utaban episodes on google videos, discovered YouTube and since then was a Morning Musume fan, saw one Berryz Koubou video, became a Berryz fan, then C-ute and so on. So after a while I became more a H!P wota than a Morning Musume fan.

Was watching Channel V’s show of Japanese music videos & recording some of it in my VHS. I used to always loop the recordings of the music videos and there was “Sou da! We’re Alive” playing. I was surprised by the amount of girls in the video and I like it that the lyrics part are well distributed. Probably why I was a Yaguchi bias because she was the center of “Sou da! We’re Alive”. So you can tell how shocked I was when she was caught with Oguri Shun (though I like Oguri Shun since the JDramas GTO & Summer Snow & movie, Azumi – so I was okay with them haha)
I looked them up in the internet (dial up days) and got hooked to many songs of Tsunku made for Hello!Project. Hello!Project was so interesting at that time as they were always on variety shows & the yearly shuffles was cool. I didn’t became a fan of Berryz or C-ute when they debuted because they seemed too young for my taste. Was a Melon Kinenbi fan during the golden era though. It was also fun to watch Ayaka’s English Lessons. Was also rooting for Mini Moni & Matsuura Aya that time.
Though, I kinda stopped being a fan during the Eclipse Era (or Platinum Era) as I was too busy in my school life to fanboy much and probably partly when Yossy graduated.
When I got enough time again to fanboy again, I honestly tried to be a fan of 48groups first as that is the trend of being an idol wota but the music won’t just cut it for me. That’s why I’m more or less a Tsunku wota. Got back to being a Hello!Project wota again when I watched 1, 2, 3 PV (& probably the same reason why Yusuke Santamaria became a fan – they are now cool, instead of just cute (which probably is the reason why I got into SweetS way back during MoMusu’s Golden Era)). I only recognized Yayaomo & Tanaka Reina in the line up but everything in the choreography captured me. It was really different to the golden era. Probably the reason why my bias is Daaishi (as Yusuke Santamaria said, she even dance with her face haha).
Currently, I’m mostly rooting for MoMusu & Juice=Juice. Juice=Juice probably got me because even though most of their songs are mature (otonappoi), they do NOT at all dance them sexily. KanaTomo biased.

Even though as Yayaomo said in Shabekuri 007, 10 years ago when you think who is the best idol group, only Morning Musume comes to mind. Now at this Idol Sengoku Era, it’s really different and the ones at the top are either AKB48 or Momoiro Clover Z. Morning Musume probably comes in the third. But it’s always good to know there are fans who got to know the group during the Golden Era like me 😀

I was seven back then the first time I watched Berryz debut song thanks to my older sister. I fell in love with them instantly, but when Special Generation arrived, Risako’s gleaming eyes captured my attention, so I decided she would be my oshimen.

I’m happy that I’ve been following them since I was a first grader. Berryz songs gave me happy thoughts during my elementary years, cheered me up whenever I was so down during my high school years (I’d almost experienced the negative side of puberty. Deterioration sucks tbh.) and encouraged me to accept reality since I am in college. Berryz Saikou!

It all started 4 years ago when browsing Youtube, i came across a Lucky Star OPV, which used a H!P song. Out of curiosity, I looked up that song, which happened to be Fujimoto Miki’s Aenai Nagai Nichiyoubi. That same night, I eventually stumbled across the H!P Sports Fest clips, one of which was the 2006 100m race with a certain Yajima Maimi. I was blown away by her beautiful smile, her humble and shy personality and amazing athleticism and proceeded to follow the awesome “Legend of Yajima” to my favourite music group of C-ute. That was all it took to get me addicted to the world of H!P and my love for Maimi (and therefore C-ute) has been increasing exponentially since. however, unlike most others here, i am probably not considered a H!P wota, given my obvious bias for C-ute and lack of interest in the other H!P groups (except Berryz, with whom they joined H!P as part of H!P Kids).

Mine’s a bit weird. I was reading a game news site and saw that one of the Yakuza games (can’t remember which one) had a cameo of a Jpop star in it, which happened to be Yaguchi. The article had a link to a YouTube vid of Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari, which hooked me in. At that point, my favourites were Yossie, Ai-chan, and Mikitty. I then proceeded to watch as many vids of them available online as I could. Eventually I started watching vids of the other groups too, and learned their names. This was all around 2010. Now I’m predominantly a MM and UUG fan though lol. The first vid of UUG I watched was of Ayanon being dared to eat a silkworm pupa, and I was immensely impressed lol. I guess around 2009-2010 because I watched the anime Shugo Chara. Used to sing Buono! Songs with friends. Though I haven’t been looking up that group too much since it was more about the anime for me. Weirdly enough I kept on discovering H!P related videos such as Kamei Eri’s
English lesson which I loved so much and 3 2 1 Breakin’ Out PV. At a certain point I got asked to participate in groupdubs and I ended up singing Nanchatte Renai. I was given Kamei Eri’s lines and yeah she stuck with me as my oshimen. As for Buono! it was Momoko since I sang her lines as well lol. I started to become super interested end 2010 but my heart was broken that Kamei Eri would graduate. I had a difficult time accepting the new line-up but tried to become a Riho-wota only to discover it felt forced because she’s obviously the ace. So September 2011, I finally ended up with Ikuta Erina. And look now, I’m a big Ikuta wota lol. She’s now my no. 1 oshimen. I am no longer a Momowota though, since I dislike her “Momochi” side so much, I’ve known Momoko as a naturally cute girl who could pull off a great singing voice in Buono! Now she’s just trying too hard, when she even doesn’t have to try. Generally I’m a Momusu wota, with J=J and C-ute on the 2nd place, then S/mileage and Im not really a fan from Berryz atm but I do listen to them.

My friend had been an H!P fan for years, and they showed me a few Berryz videos that they claimed had gotten hate over… and I was like, what the heck, why?? This is good!! It was a surprise, because before then I was really biased against J-pop, didn’t think they were attractive and can’t sing, but Berryz… wow. I thought they were all beautiful and could sing! I downloaded a bunch of their singles and learned who they were. Maasa and Risako caught my eye then and are still my BK oshis to this day.
I started watching Hello!Station even though I didn’t understand anything, just wanting to look at the pretty idols, haha. I found 2ch translations around that time, and though I didn’t know who most of the idols were, I still had a laugh. The majority of the threads were MM-centric, so I naturally got curious about them. Before then I had found out about One Two Three and learned the dance but told myself, “Huh, I’ll never get into these girls.” I asked my wota friend about them and they sent me Brainstorming, which had just come out, and the rest is history. I love them! Along the way I got into S/m, J=J, and C-ute, also, but MM is still my top group.

In 2005-2006, I was hooked with Johnny’s idol. That time there were a lot of rumours about JohnnyXH!P couple (example Chinami&Jin, Yurina&a boy from HeySay7 etc). I was angry & curious at the same time. I went & researched about H!P. I was watching GTO special & came across an actress named Tanaka Rena. I searched her name & accidentally clicked on Tanaka Reina wiki. I was shocked of how unique Reina look (Kitty-like eyes & everything). She was super cute. I learned that she was part of Morning Musume which was under H!P. How shocked I was! I listened to Sexy Boy & Go Girl & felt in love immediately. I became & Morning Musume wota since then & abandoned Johnny’s fandom.
I’d been through the Platinum era & still loyal to them. But still 2010 was the hardest year ever. The static line-up with no new addition, boring songs like Tsunku not even trying, triple graduation (Kamei was one of my favourite), less interesting TV appearance where the OG took the spotlight.. I was actually tired of hoping & almost gave up.. But suddenly 9th&10th gen was added, MM was promoted again. It was like the light of hope shining down on me. Now I’m glad I did not stop being their fan. Currently I’m in my 8th year being Momusu fan & still going strong. I bought almost all their stuff starting from 2011, obviously because I started working & earn my own money.
