We have reached the one year anniversary of the addition of the 10th generation to Morning Musume! It feels like only yesterday we were watching a shy group of girls introduce themselves to a full house at the Nippon Budokan. It was a peculiar feeling to say the least as we watched one of Morning Musume’s longest tenured members graduate while simultaneously adding on four brand new girls. I imagine the crowd was just as anxious as we were to see how these new girls would fill in the gaps left behind by the graduating members. Now that a year has passed since the 10th generation has joined, we would like to take this opportunity to share our thoughts on how the girls have handled idol life and all of the challenges that come with it.
Before we start, I would like to give a special thanks to Alita and magatsu for participating in this feature.
Just like last time, our grading criteria will be on a scale from 1 – 10, 10 being the top score, over various different categories.
We will examine the following categories:
- Acting
- Dancing
- Singing
- Speaking
- Looks
- Character
- Fashion
- Public persona
- Overall progress
We will also elect a Most Improved Person out of the 10th gen girls at the end of our review. We hope you enjoy!

Not that Ayumi is necessarily bad looking, but it’s funny how someone as average as her scored higher than Kudo (true, her current hairstyle ruins it a bit) and especially Maachan. Much can be said about her personality but she’s much better looking than your average H!P member.

I think Ayumi’s the prettiest in 10th gen, and I’ve always found Masaki the plainest. But to each his own, I guess.
I also think Kudo would be at the top, if not for her haircut.

Surprisingly positive. I guess it’s because Bexxz and Turbos didn’t participate this time.
I was initially skeptical of 10th gen because my favorities from the auditions (Karin, Sara) didn’t get in. But I’ve grown to like them and believe they all have something to offer the group. Masaki is the major wild card, but she’s always interesting to watch, and I think she has the potential to become a strong singer.
To me, the biggest surprise of the bunch is Ayumi. She seems to be winning a lot of fans and is getting a huge push from UFA. I don’t know if she’ll ever eclipse Haruka, but it’s in the realm of posssibility.

I would say Daishi is getting pushed to the back. Iikubo is the one that seems to be getting all the work. For MM’s all night nippon radio show, Iikubo has been on every episode so far. Iikubo has already also started to get solo appearances on variety TV. The only thing I can remember of Daishi recently is her nico nico appearance but she didn’t really do anything to stand out in that show.

Very interesting to read! Thanks everyone who participated in this! It’ll be interesting to see what the opinions will be of the girls by next year.

Well, I really like this gen but to me the only girl that needs improvement is Ayumi. I mean, she is a great dancer, has a beautiful face but she tends to not stand out from the rest and lacks personality.
Haruna and Kuduu are my favorites, especially Kuduu. Each one has what the other doesn’t and both are great TV material. Masaki is too childlish to me, but you can tell she very popular and talented.
Thanks a lot for sharing your opinions and for everything, you guys are the best! 😀
